Choosing a gym - 'Big brand' or not?
Choosing a gym can be difficult...... do you choose a well known 'big brand' gym, do opt for an 'one off' independent gym, or do you use your local leisure centre?

Bannatyne's Fitness is one of the largest independently owned health club operators in the UK offering state of the art facilities to in excess of 180,000 members across in excess of 60 city centre and suburban locations. Coverage is now across much of the UK. Incorporated within 27 of Bannatyne's Health Clubs is The Sensory Spa which provides a range of spa treatments for men and women.
Cannons Health Club's operates in excess of 30 UK health clubs offering a full gym suite and complementary amenities. Cannons caters for all levels of fitness across all of its locations.
Club Moativation's 16 gyms are based within the QMH (formerly Moat House Hotels) hotels. The gyms are equipped with a full gym suite and complementary leisure facilities. Membership subscriptions are competitively prices.
David Lloyd Leisure is one of the leading racquets, health & fitness club group in the UK with approximately 60 clubs across the country . Additional facilities include health & beauty spas, club lounges with free internet access, creches, nurseries and specialist sports shops. Memberships rates are typically quite expensive as you would expect for a quality outfit such as this.
D C Leisure specialises in the development and management of leisure facilities of a large number of Local Authorities throughout the UK. The quality and range of facilities on offer including complementary services is generally very good.
The Esporta Group operates over 50 health and leisure clubs in the UK and Ireland providing market-leading facilities and services to the premium segment of the health and leisure market. Although expensive, the facilities are generally fantastic. Racquet sports are also catered for.
Fitness First is currently one of the worlds largest health club operators with more than 1.4 million members in more than 500 Fitness First Gym & Health Clubs. There is in excess of 170 Fitness First Gym and Health Clubs in the UK at present. Membership subscriptions are keenly priced making Fitness First one of the most affordable options available.
LA Fitness has more than 88 clubs and over a quarter of a million members all over the United Kingdom. The facilities on offer are very good and the membership rates competitively priced. The atmosphere in most LA fitness gyms is welcoming, young and vibrant.
Next Generation Clubs is one of the UK's leading group of racquets, health and fitness Clubs, offering an extensive range of sports, fitness and recreational facilities for the whole family. Club are located across the whole of the UK, from Dundee in Scotland down to Bristol.
Spirit Health & Fitness operates over 40 health clubs across the UK. The company prides itself on providing quality facilities that are non-intimidating and cater for all ages. Spirit Health Clubs is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group.
Total Fitness operates in excess of 20 gyms within the North of England, Wales and Dublin, including Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, and Hull amongst others. The facilities are comprehensive and include fully-equipped gyms, a range of swimming pools, saunas and sanariums. Pesonal trainers are available if so desired and swimming lessons are provided for both kids and adults.
Village Health Clubs 18 or so gyms are based within Village hotels which are located across much of England. The facilities on offer are second to none and include a full gym suite, swimming pool, squash courts as well as complementary spa, treatment and creche facilities.
Virgin Active gyms offer a full suite of exercise and fitness equipment along with a range of complementary facilities. Renound for being good value, Virgin Active gyms are popular with all age groups although city centre locations tend to have younger clientele.
