How to keep yourself motivated when exercising......
This is a question that we are asked many times over.
One of the best ways to stay motivated is to make your gym / exercise sessions less of a chore. The last thing that you want to be doing every time that you go to the gym is to be endlessly watching the countdown timer on your exercise bike, rower or running machine wishing that your exercise was over......
......the key here is to make sure that you are distracting yourself and not thinking about time!
To distract yourself, you need to have something else to focus on. Perhaps one of the best inventions for this very job has been the Ipod or mp3 player. Listening to your choice of songs whilst exercising really helps with this and we can't recommend too strongly investing in an Ipod or mp3 player for this very purpose.
As well as investing in an Ipod or mp3 player, it is good to try to exercise to upbeat, faster-paced music as it helps you to work harder whilst training. It is amazing how you will just cycle that bit faster or run that bit harder when an upbeat dance anthem is playing.
Other ways to stay motivated include:
- Exercising with a friend or partner;
- Keeping hold of clothes that you used to fit you when you were bigger so that you can see the results of your efforts. As you slim down and your bigger clothes drown you whilst clothes that you could never dream of squeezing into now fit perfectly; and
- Completing your food and exercise diary. Sign in or register as a member of Purple Weight Loss (for free) to have full access to our food and exercise diary and weight loss resources. If you stick to your diet and excise plan, you will see the result in the numbers and charts as well as in the mirror!
