Why not choose the low calorie options on offer at the supermarket?
When doing your supermarket shop, you can often reduce your calorie intake by making some better and healthier choices.
Most supermarkets produce healthy food ranges where the foods have fewer calories and less fat than standard alternatives. However, as always, this is a general rule so do check the nutritional information for accurate calorie information.
The Tesco Healthy living range also offers similar products that are lower in fat and calories than standard branded products.
The Asda Good for you range generally offers products which are lower in fat and calories than standard products and as such are a good choice for anyone looking to lose weight.
The Sainsbury's Be good to yourself range is a good offering with new lines being added to its range all the time. Most tastes and foods are catered for, and all tend to contain fewer calories and less fat than their standard and other branded products.
Morrison's Eat Smart range has less than 3% fat, and under 400 calories per portion across a range of fresh sandwiches, ready meals, yoghurts and snacks. Morrison's guarantees that there is at least 25% less fat or sugar than the full-on versions.
Somerfield offers over 150 products in its Healthy choice range from pasta sauces and salad dressings to cooked meats and poultry cuts, cheese and dips, and other every day foods. The full menu is catered for, including breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner, and desserts.
Co-op's Healthy living range offering includes over 65 products from snacks and ready meals through to desserts. Co-op states that the following calorie information applies to the whole of the 'Healthy living' range:
- 450 calories per complete ready meal;
- 350 calories for lunchtime products (i.e. sandwiches, salads, pasta salads);
- 200 calories for meal accompaniments; and
- 100 calories for snacks.
